As well he was fined £25 and disqualified for six months for not having a licence and £75 with a six month ban for driving without due care and attention. He was ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard the accident happened at Ashgrove Manor in Portadown. There was damage to the front of the car which was found stuck in a fence.

Police contacted the owner of the vehicle who said it had been taken without her permission.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said Lawless was a talented sportsman who had been on the books of a professional football club and now trained local teams.
