Tracker system used to find stolen quad

Ballymena police recovered a quad worth £5,500 with some assistance from the community and a helping technological hand courtesy of the ‘Tracker’ system.

The quad was recovered from Glenarm on Monday 10 February after it had been reported stolen from a farm Crumlin on the morning of Sunday 09 February. Investigating officers received information from the public on the theft and ‘Tracker’ took them through a heavily wooded area to its exact location.

Inspector John Allen of Ballymena PSNI commented: “As well as PSNI’s commitment to tackling rural crime, we need rural communities to do their bit. In this instance, the ‘Tracker’ system, combined with good police work, got the quad back to it’s rightful owner. Simple crime prevention measures will help police to thwart criminals who take advantage of rural communities.

“We launched Farm Watch in Ballymena Mart a fortnight ago, alongside Department of Justice and PCSP partners, as part of ongoing efforts to reduce rural crime. Pauline Nelmes, from ‘Tracker’ added: “This is another excellent result for PSNI using ‘Tracker’s’ unique VHF technology. Unlike GPS/GSM technology which can be scanned or jammed Tracker’s VHF technology omits a silent signal even if a vehicle is undercover, or in a container. To date the PSNI together with Tracker technology have recovered nearly £11m worth of stolen vehicles in Northern Ireland. “
