Truck driver given five-day ban

A truck driver caught speeding on the Glenshane Road, Maghera, was fined £100 with a £15 offender levy and banned from driving for five days at Magherafelt Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

A truck driver caught speeding on the Glenshane Road, Maghera, was fined £100 with a £15 offender levy and banned from driving for five days at Magherafelt Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Dean Crooks (53), of Calmore Court, Tobermore, admitted a charge of excess speed for the classification of the vehicle.

The court heard Crooks was detected travelling at 54mph, 14mph in excess of the permitted speed limit for the truck on May 12 last year.

A PPS lawyer said he had nine penalty points on his licence and no record.

The defendant, who was not professionally represented, told the court that he had not realised he was going so fast.
