The underpass will be closed tomorrow (7 May) from 9:30am to 2pm, and again from 4:30pm until 7am Friday.

The PSNI stated that extensive graffiti had been written across the freshly plastered walls, demonstrating ‘blatant disregard for the work that has been going on to make the underpasses accessible and safe for all.’

They also advised that they would be increasing patrols in the area, as well as speaking to local schools, community groups and residents, to prevent the underpasses from being targeted further by vandals.

It is hoped that the hours of temporary closure will facilitate peak demands at school crossing times, to keep children and young people safe on the roads.

During the closure, pedestrians and cyclists will be directed to use an alternative route, with the options of using access paths or travelling via the traffic lights at the filling station.

The PSNI have asked for anyone with information which could aid their investigation, or notices suspicious activity in the area, to phone 101 immediately.
