Vigilance urged following cattle thefts

THOSE living in rural areas around Mid-Ulster are being urged to be vigilant following a number of cattle thefts in the area.

DUP MLA Ian McCrea also called on farmers across the constituency to remain on alert against thefts.

“As a member of the Policing Board, I am more than aware of the rise in agri-crimes in Northern Ireland and was extremely angered to hear of the recent animal theft in the Pomeroy area,” he said.

“In times when farmers are doing all they can to keep their farms afloat, these type of despicable crimes are having a detrimental effect on their lively hood and I would encourage both farmers and the surrounding rural communities to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour.”

“In recent weeks the PSNI’s Rural Neighbourhood Team have been introducing Farmwatch to the farming community and anyone who wishes to become involved in the scheme or know more about it should contact their local Neighbourhood Officer.”
