Was disorderly at derby match

Scott Norval, The Little Forest, Portadown, was fined £200 for disorderly behaviour and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy at Craigavon Magistrates

Court.

The court heard that on December 26 police were on duty at the Portadown and Glenavon match at Shamrock Park.

At 5pm they saw the defendant, who was intoxicated, at the rear entrance and he

became confrontational.

He said it was his intention to enter the ground even though he had been ejected at

half-time due to the level of his intoxication.

Norval was told by police not to enter the Armagh Road and he became argumentative with them.

He was asked to leave the area but looked towards the Glenavon stand and then mimicked a head-butt towards an officer.

The defendant repeated what he had done as members of the public were passing by.

When he was arrested he said: “Are you serious?”

A solicitor representing the defendant said he consumed far too much alcohol and was ejected at half-time.

He added that Norval had no recollection of any confrontation with any police officer

and had caused embarrassment to himself and his family.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan said this was a foolish incident fuelled by alcohol and the totally unacceptable gesture was an aggravating factor.
