Waterside man is fined £175

A 23-year-old who admitted disorderly behaviour in the Waterside has been fined £175.

Thomas Grimes, of Malvern Terrace, admitted one charge relating to an incident in the Chapel Road area on June 10.

Londonderry Magistrate’s Court heard police were called to the area in the early hours of the morning because people were drinking in the street. Officers advised them to go home, however Grimes remained in the area and began shouting and swearing at police. He then raised his fists at police in an aggressive manner and was arrested.

A defence solicitor told the court the 23-year-old had a dispute with his father in a nearby bar and “took his frustration out” on police. The solicitor added Grimes deeply regrets his behaviour and wished to apologise to the court.
