Hannah Duddy (20), whose address was given on court papers as c/o The Simon Community, Co Armagh, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour in the Crawford Square area of the city.

She also pleaded guilty to assaulting police on May 1.

The defendant was remanded in custody for breaching a condition of her bail, namely that she stay out of Londonderry. She appeared in court via videolink and applied for her case to be dealt with.

Her defence barrister revealed that Duddy has lost her place in the hostel and would not be able to apply for bail because there was no other address available to her outside the city.

The court heard Duddy had a fight with another woman and they were shouting and swearing at each other in the street.

When the police intervened, the court was told that the defendant slapped an officer twice on the side of her face. She also attempted to bite the officer on the arm.

The court was told no injuries were sustained during the assault.

Defence counsel Eoghan Devlin said Duddy intended to go back to Co Armagh once she had served her sentence.

He said that in sobriety the 20-year-old caused no difficulty for anyone. This happens solely when she consumed alcohol or drugs.

District Judge Barney McElholm jailed Duddy for a total of three months.

He also imposed an offender levy of £25.
