Woman breached bail conditions twice

A woman from the Cityside was remanded in custody when she appeared at Londonderry Magistrates Court, charged with breaching of her bail conditions.

The Court heard that Sharon Campbell (36), with an address at Lawrence Hill in the city, breached her bail conditions twice in under a week over the festive period.

Campbell had been previously accused of attacking her partner with a broken bottle, and had previously been remanded in custody on Christmas Day on the grounds that she had breached her bail conditions.

The court was told that she was subsequently released on New Year’s Eve, when her case was brought before the High Court.

At the latest court hearing the District Judge heard that Campbell was originally charged with a count of committing grievous bodily harm with intent to do so on November 12 last.

The Magistrates Court was told that the 36-year-old then breached her conditions twice. The first occasion was on the Saturday night when she phoned the police. It was noted that she was highly intoxicated which was in breach of a ban preventing her from consuming alcohol. A breath test revealed that the accused had a reading of 131mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Solicitor Maeliosa Barr, who appeared for Campbell, said his client has mental health difficulties as well as alcohol issues.

Refusing to grant Campbell bail, District Judge Barney McElholm said the court could not keep turning a blind eye to the breaches.

Campbell was remanded in custody until Thursday.
