Woman involved in assaults on police

A LURGAN woman, facing a series of charges including assaults on police, had her case deferred when she appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

She was 29 year old Catherine Anne Kenny, of Mark Court, Lurgan.

She admitted disorderly behaviour, four assaults on police, damaging a police car and possession of herbal cannabis on March 10.

As well she pleaded guilty to damaging a police car and two assaults on constables on June 4.

The court heard that on March 10 at Castle Lane Mews the defendant was shouting loudly in the street and threw her handbag and jacket at the police.

She was handcuffed but continued to be aggressive and would not get in the rear of the vehicle. She kicked out and hit a constable on the leg.

Kenny spat on the rear seat and continued to spit, hitting two officers.

When she was searched cannabis was recovered from her handbag.

On June 4 at Mark Court the defendant threw household items towards the police. The bonnet of the police car was damaged.

The defendant was screaming incoherently when arrested and slapped the right cheek of a police officer.

The case had been adjourned from a previous court so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

A barrister for Kenny said it was one of the most helpful reports he had seen in a long time.

He added that she had a distorted view of people which was exaggerated by the amount of alcohol and drugs she had been taking in the past.

District Judge, Mr Alan White, said he would defer sentence but if there were any further offences she would be going into custody.

Adjourning the case until November 16 he told Kenny he hoped she stayed out of trouble.
