Kerri Leeann Ogilby (31), whose address was given on court papers as the Simon Community, Bonds Hill, Waterside, pleaded guilty to possessing an article with a blade and resisting police on August 21.

The offences took place in the Waterside area of the city, and following the hearing of evidence, the District Judge Barney McElholm, imposed a three-month jail sentence.

The Magistrates Court was told that the 31-year-old defendant was standing in the street holding the knife when police arrived.

As she was being arrested Ogilby struggled violently with the police officers.

During interview, the defendant claimed she had been drinking with her partner who habitually carried a knife and she claimed that she had taken it off him.

Defence counsel, Eoghan Devlin, told the Court his client had a number of difficulties.

He said that Ogilby’s partner was well known to the Court and, while it is not a defence, her story has a ring of truth about it.

Jailing Ogilby for three months, the District Judge requested a Destruction Order for the knife.
