Young woman was abusive to hospital patients

AFTER going to hospital for treatment a young Lurgan woman became abusive and was arrested for disorderly behaviour.

Eighteen year old Aine Heaney, of Foxgrove, Lurgan, was fined £100 for the offence and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that on April 4 police received a report of a female patient being abusive.

The defendant threw herself on the floor and used obscene language in front of the other patients. She was shouting in a public area.

District Judge, Mr Alan White, said this was ridiculous and that people who go to hospital should not have to contend with this sort of behaviour from someone who had consumed too much alcohol.

A solicitor for Heaney said she had been socialising with friends. She hurt herself and went to hospital for treatment.

The solicitor added that the defendant gave a significant period of time to youth work.

Mr White said he took a serious view of things like this happening in a hospital.

He described this as disgraceful behaviour but the defendant was only 18 and had no previous convictions and he hoped she would not get into this state again.

Mr White told her to get on with her life. He hoped she would get the type of work she wanted and that he would not see her again.
