Cromlyn House Veterinary Hospital celebrates 10 years of service to the local community

CROMLYN House Veterinary Clinic opened its doors in the village of Hillsborough in 1985.

As the practice steadily expanded it became apparent that the charming old listed building on Main Street no longer met the demands of a busy modern veterinary practice and plans were made to build a state of the art hospital on the outskirts of the village. The new building opened in 2002 and shortly afterwards was awarded Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons accreditation as an RCVS Tier three Hospital (one of only two in Northern Ireland at the time).

To become accredited the practice underwent a rigorous inspection. Areas covered included hygiene, health and safety, surgical and medical facilities and equipment, and staff training. The hospital is inspected every four years and must certify annually that it continues to meet the standards. In addition spot-checks may be carried out.

RCVS accreditation means peace of mind for clients, quality care for their animals and a commitment to maintaining these standards through regular inspection.

What is special about an RCVS Hospital?

Nursing staff are present on the premises round the clock and if required a veterinary surgeon is available at all times to attend to in-patients.

A system is maintained for checking that clinical standards are maintained and improved by monitoring performance and the outcome of treatments.

A high quality and broad range of diagnostic and surgical equipment is maintained including digital radiography, ultrasound scanners, fibre-optic endoscopy and automated biochemistry and haematology laboratory equipment.
