Mr Edwin Poots this week announced a cross-departmental strategy on Autism, which has been praised by a long supporter of Autism rights in Northern Ireland, Lagan Valley MLA Jonathan Craig.

Mr Craig said, “I would like to publicly commend Minister Poots for his on-going support for individuals living with Autism and his continuous recognition of the difficulties and challenges that Autism brings to many families in Northern Ireland.”

Mr Craig added, “Having worked with Autism NI Lisburn branch and many parents throughout Lagan Valley, it has been clear for some time that Autism is much broader than the Health Department and involves many other Government Departments.

“This Cross-Departmental strategy will make Government Departments work closer together and will help deliver better outcomes for families dealing with Autism, whether that is in the field of Education, Health or job and training opportunities.”

Mr Craig continued: “I would like to also thank the Working Group that was set up to develop this strategy; in particular Arlene Cassidy, Chief Executive Autism NI and I look forward to working with all the Government Department to make sure that this strategy delivers the help and support were it is needed most.”
