Crosskeys Inn extension

Plans to provide accommodation and function facilities at Northern Ireland’s oldest thatched pub, the Crosskeys Inn, have been approved by Mid & East Antrim Council’s Planning Committee.

The Grade B1 listed building located at 39 and 40 Grange Road dates back to 1654.

Senior Planner, Kyle Patterson, told last week’s committee meeting in Ballymena that the application, by Vincent Hurl, was for the provision of a two storey extension to the rear of the public house to provide an additional function area on the ground floor and accommodation, comprising seven en-suite guest bedrooms, on the first floor.

Mr Patterson said the extension would not protrude above the highest point of the existing building and that no objections had been received to the application which, he added, was a renewal of permission previously granted.

The committee went on to support Cr Billy Henry’s proposal to accept the planners’ recommendation to approve it subject to conditions.
