Crowds celebrate countdown to Christmas

THERE was a great turnout in Glengormley on Saturday afternoon (November 17) for the Christmas lights switch on.

Despite the wet weather, hundreds of people of all ages gathered in the Thunderdome Cafe car park to see Miss Piggy and some of her Muppet friends join Santa and Mayor Victor Robinson as they flicked the switch on the festive illuminations.

Local singing star Emma Lowry entertained the crowds, while Ballyduff Silver Band led the Christmas carols.

Commenting on the event, alderman Robinson said the celebrations had been “brilliant”, adding that he was particularly delighted to meet his favourite Muppet, Animal.

“There was a hail storm in the middle of it, but the people just stayed there and braved the elements, which was great. There was a great atmosphere and the whole thing went really well,” he commented.
