Crowds expected to flock to the Balmoral Show next week

The annual show, which attracts thousands of visitors, runs from Wednesday May 11 until Friday May 13 and will feature a host of stalls, as well as displays of livestock, agricultural equipment and plenty of food and fun for all the family.

There will also be some new additions to the show this year, including an edible garden.

The Garden Village at Balmoral Show provides a dedicated area for green fingered enthusiasts and is set to provide more spectacle with the exciting addition of an edible garden.

There will be a polytunnel erected and filled with edible produce providing a visually interesting and informative display for the general public. In keeping with the NI Year of Food and Drink, show goers will be able to see the food they have on their plate growing in the ground, bridging the gap between farm and fork.

The Spar Arena at this year’s event will showcase family entertainment and be a hub of activity as several attractions fill an exciting timetable.

This dedicated family fun area boasts an impressive lineup with a variety of acts including exciting displays from the NI School of Falconry, Tim Crothers demonstrating gun dog skills and the kids favourite Bruce Airhead.

Glenavy beef farmer, James Porter is on the countdown to the show as well and is preparing his prize-winning cow for the Show’s prestigious Aberdeen Angus beef cattle classes, which will once again be sponsored by Marks & Spencer.

Rhonda Geary, Royal Ulster Agricultural Society Operations Director, said: “M&S have had a long standing involvement with the Balmoral Show which has allowed us to build a relationship that we are extremely proud of. We are delighted that they will be involved once again at Balmoral Park.”

The Show organisers are once again advising visitors to consider their travel plans carefully. RUAS Chief Executive, Colin McDonald said: “We want people to come and enjoy the Show and get here by the quickest and safest route possible. We have worked hard to improve the traffic management plan to improve the flow of traffic around the showgrounds but as with all large events people should be prepared for potential delays. Prepare your route beforehand, leave plenty of time for your journey and follow the directions of the PSNI.”
