Crumlin woman is fined £22,000

A CRUMLIN woman has been fined £22,000 over the unauthorised use of land for vehicle parking near Belfast International Airport.

Mrs Carolyn Leonora Thompson, of Killead Road, appeared at Larne Magistrates Court on Friday in connection with vehicles parked at Killead Air Lodge.

The bed and breakfast is two and a half miles from the airport and is used by passengers.

Mrs Thompson pleaded guilty to non compliance with a DOE Planning Enforcement Notice and was fined £22,000 plus £75 solicitors costs and £10 court costs.

The DoE said: “Mrs Thompson was convicted under Article 72 of the Planning (NI) Order 1991, as amended, as it is an offence to be in breach of an enforcement notice.

“A breach of a notice occurs where, at any time after the period for compliance has lapsed, any step required to be taken has not been taken.”
