Cullybackey WI’s got talent!

PROVING that Cullybackey’s got talent, the local WI ladies enjoyed a talent show at their recent meeting.

President Eleanor McIlroy welcomed everyone along to the members’ talent show, with new members Rachel Swann and Liz Foster made especially welcome.

Eleanor started the entertainment by reading a poem about ‘The Snowdrop’.

This was very appropriate as Jennifer Calderwood had brought a beautiful bunch of snowdrops for the table.

Eleanor read several other lovely poems during the evening, some of which she explained she had discovered in an ancestor’s scrapbook.

Cullybackey WI singing group, led by Ruth Orr and accompanied by Elizabeth Patterson, then sang three pieces: ‘Marianina’, ‘Billy Boy’, and ‘Hand Me Down My Silver Trumpet’.

Members were all asked to join in the last one.

Iris Rodgers, Stella Stewart and Eileen Wylie then demonstrated their acting skills when they performed a very funny sketch entitled ‘Ladies in Waiting’.

Other talented members brought along a wide variety of craftwork they had completed and this was displayed at the front of the hall for everyone to see.

After a delicious supper, Eleanor thanked Elizabeth Patterson and everyone who had taken part in the talent show.

The monthly competition, for a hand-made card, was won by Maureen Adams, second was Judith Adams, and third Josephine Archer.

Birthday girl for February was Elizabeth Johnston.

A most enjoyable evening finished with the singing of A Countrywoman’s Song.
