Cullybackey and satellite settlements such as Hillmount, Harperstown and Craigs sent scores of young men off to fight, mostly in the trenches of the western front and during the course of the conflict many made the supreme sacrifice.

Others suffered physical and mental wounds during their time in the cauldron of violence.

Local history enthusiast and researcher, Alan Rosborough has spent several years compiling details of the role played by these men and he will be telling some of their stories at

Ballymena Central Library on Thursday, October 8 from 6:45pm - 7:45pm.

The library will also be showing the PRONI First World War exhibition in the Heritage Department throughout the month of October. Contact Ballymena Central Library on 028 2563 3950 2429.
