Cup final 'blues' for Bertie Peacock Youths

THEY had hoped it would be third time lucky, but Bertie Peacock Under 13's had to settle for a runners up spot in the Northern Ireland Tesco Boys Cup on Saturday after a 3-1 defeat to Linfield.

The Coleraine side travelled to Stangmore Park for their third final in three years.

The youngsters started well and had Linfield on the back foot. After 15 minutes, the Coleraine side took the lead from a corner kick. Law's precise ball was headed home by Herald much to the delight of the large Coleraine support.

This goal woke up the Blues and in their next attack goalkeeper Cassidy made a great save. Five minutes later Cassidy was on hand again to save from Thompson.

However Linfield levelled matters on 28 minutes from a free kick.

This late goal lifted the Belfast side, and it seemed to do the opposite for Bertie's as they were pinned back for most of the second half.

With 15 minutes left, Linfield went in front through Thompson. At the other end the young Coleraine side never gave up, Herald forcing the Linfield keeper into a few saves.

Cassidy pulled off two great saves to keep his side in the game, but this was short lived as Linfield got their all important third goal.

Bertie's kept going right to the end Gray, McQuilkin, Gilmore and Boreland all came off the bench, but the fresh legs couldn't break down a strong Linfield team.

The Under 13's would like to thank everyone who supported them on the day. The coaches would also like to thank the team for all the hard effort they put in.
