Cup victory for Coleraine Colts

COLERAINE Colts defeated Carrick Rangers Colts in the preliminary round of the IFA Youth League Cup on Saturday

It was a tough game for the Showgrounds side, but sheer grit and determination saw them through.

The visitors started the game well, and they took the lead after ten minutes, when Coleraine's defence failed to clear a cross.

This seemed to spur the Bannside youngsters on, and they came into the game more.

Dinsmore, Austin and Rhodich all came close to equalising, but Carrick remained in front at the break.

A dressing down at half time, saw Coleraine Colts pulling up their socks for the second half.

Despite their best efforts, the Carrick keeper proved to be unbeatable.

Rhodich was fouled inside the penalty area and the referee awarded Coleraine a penalty, but the same player missed from the spot.

Coleraine finally got the equaliser they deserved when Dinsmore headed home a Patton corner.

With only ten minutes of the game remaining, the Colts introduced fresh legs, and Walker replaced Rhodich. And it was super sub Walker who put Coleraine in front, racing onto a long kick out by keeper Dunlop to fire home.

Walker then put Dinsmore in on goal to make it 3-1.

Just when Coleraine thought they had done enough, Carrick were awarded a penalty, the Carrick forward making no mistake from the spot.
