Cushendall man fined £100

A CUSHENDALL man has been fined a total of £100.

John Patrick O’Neill (63), of Coast Road, drove a vehicle on which was affixed an incorrect form of registration mark and a vehicle test certificate was also absent.

A prosecutor said police found a vehicle “abandoned” with the door open and the offences came to light.

Police established it was O’Neill’s vehicle and when they went to his home they were about to leave when the vehicle in question drove in.

The defendant told police he was unaware the number plate was the wrong size.

A defence solicitor said the size difference was a few millimetres and he said this was a case which involved a farmer in his Sixties and not some “boy racer”.

District Judge Richard Wilson said it “annoys” him when he sees number plates adapted to spell names.
