Custody warning for man

When police smelled cannabis in a car they carried out a search and found a quantity of the drug worth £10 on a 23-year-old-man.

Adnan Mohammed, Oaktree Manor, Waringstown, was fined £150 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for unlawful possession of the class B drug on June 25 this year.

The court heard that police stopped a car in Union Street, Lurgan, and spoke with the occupants.

There was a strong smell of herbal cannabis and after a search a small amount of cannabis was found on the defendant. It was worth about £10.

A solicitor representing the defendant said that he did not have a problem with drugs but he was in regular contact with his GP about anxiety and panic attacks arising from issues as a child.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said he was concerned about two previous diversions and that Mohammed was accumulating something of a record.

He warned the defendant that if he continued offending by taking drugs he would find himself facing custody.
