Cuts biteas youth groups struggle

A North Lurgan youth group has received a temporary reprieve while another local playgroup faces a struggle as austerity cuts begin to bite.

Avenue Road-based playgroup Kidzone is one of many across Northern Ireland facing problems due to withdrawal of Early Year’s Funding by the Department of Education.

Meanwhile Clann Eireann Youth Club has been handed a temporary reprieve as it waits on the new Education Authority to meet and apportion its new budget. Teenagers in Kilwilkie have been lobbying to get full funding to keep the club open while supporters of Kidzone have called on Education Minister John O’Dowd to think again on a decision to withdraw vital funding.
