Cycle routes await funds

Plans are still pipeline to develop three new cycling & walking routes in Ballymena.

An update on the town’s cycling infrastructure, presented to the Borough Council’s Community Planning and Wellbeing Committee, revealed that they will be delivered as finance becomes available.

The three dual use routes will combine sections adjacent to existing roads with sections through Council owned parkland. They will: provide links to the National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 97 (Ballymena to Glenarm) via Frys Road, Grove Road, Doury Road, Sentry Hill and the People’s Park to Ballymoney Road; complete links to NCN 97 along parts of the A26 Larne Road Link; and, link route NCN 97 to Route 94 (Loughshore Trail) via Moat Road, Pennybridge Footpath, Ballee Way and Ballee Road West and Antrim Road.

Also included in the original DRD funding application was a walking route linking the bus/rail station along Waveney Road & Avenue and Pats Brae to the town centre.
