‘Cycle to Work’ scheme a success

A cycle scheme was ‘more successful in Ballymoney that in some larger councils in Northern Ireland’ according to a report by the Ballymoney Borough Council.

Council minutes said the ‘Cycle to Work’ scheme, which has been operating for two years, saw over 40 councillors and employees availing of a government supported programme to encourage greater use of bicycles for travelling to and from places of work.

Councillor Jason Atkinson was seconded by Councillor John Finlay in his proposal that the Council continues to promote the scheme this year by encouraging staff and elected memebers to purchase and use bicycles for work related journeys.

It was further recommended that the scheme be operated in conjunction with Outdoor Life, Market Street, Ballymoney, ensuring sustainability by supporting a local business.

Councillor Atkinson felt that this initiative was a “very worthwhile scheme” and commended it.
