Cyclists brave thunder to complete Cushendall to Carrick challenge

THUNDERSTORMS failed to dampen the spirits of participants in a sponsored cycle at the weekend.

Despite the unfavourable conditions, all participants finished the Cushendall to Carrickfergus route, raising over 2,000 for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children, Cruse Bereavement Care and Mindwise in the process.

Organiser Noel McKee, from Whitehead, has thanked Stephen Hunter of Hunter Removals for tansporting bicyles to cushendall, Shaun Fraser of the PSNI for transporting the cyclists themselves and Jack Creighton of the Joymount Arms for hosting the after party.

"Without their support the event could not have been run. This was a very successful event and one that we hope to build on in future years," Mr McKee said.

"It is the perfect opportunity for people to dust off the bikes that have been sitting in the garage for a while unused and to give themselves a target for getting fit. Even the thunderstorms didn't curtail the enthusiasm of the cyclists and everyone finished the course - eventually."
