Daisies Cafe shows care

DAISIES is not just a pleasant way to have a bite to eat and a chit chat, it is a caring cafe offering great health benefits to staff as well as customers.

Based at Mount Zion House, it is under the management of Tracy Blevins of Accept Care, a ‘not for profit’ organisation, who has a wealth of experience in the catering industry.

Daisies is an ordinary business, providing goods and services under normal business terms and conditions.

The fundamental difference lies in the fact that a proportion of its workers will have mental ill health or other disabilities and will require a carefully planned, supportive working environment which would help those who otherwise may not have had the opportunity to gain skills, self-belief and confidence they needed to take their place in the community as equals.

The charity café was set up 12 years ago as an alternative to the traditional day care and to provide clients with real life on-the-job training, work experience and, for some, real jobs.

Derek McClure, the founding Director said: “Those of us who embarked on this project had a shared belief which is the foundation of all we do at Daisies.”

This belief is that everyone has worth to their family, their friends and the community, no matter what their perceived abilities are.

Daisies Café works with clients who have a learning disability and/or mental ill health.

Many clients with learning disability have not had the opportunity to develop fully their potential and to show what they are capable of.

Everyone loves home cooked food using the finest of ingredients, but people don’t always have the time or energy to devote to cooking.

However, Daisies can help with this, whether you want to sit in and enjoy their cuisine, or have help with some outside catering, conferences, birthday parties or wedding anniversaries.

The enthusiasm of the trainees and staff and their infectious good humour makes a visit to Daisies a real treat.

The Directors of Accept Care thank all those who have helped make the dream of Daisies Café a reality.

They are the people responsible for the good food, friendly service and the warm customer experience, which is unique to Daisies.

If you have a son or daughter who has a learning disability and feel that they might benefit from the training and work experience at Daisies, or if you are a person with a mental illness, or you know someone who is suffering from mental ill health, please contact Operations Director, Derek McClure on 0771 895 8650 or email [email protected]
