Dallat greets senior citizens from Garvagh and Kilrea at Stormont

A hundred senior citizens from the Kilrea and Garvagh areas have visited Stormont.

The trip was organised by the local Saint Vincent de Paul Society and the guests were met by local Assembly Member John Dallat and his wife Anne.

As a result of the flooding in Belfast Parliament Buildings was running on emergency power but this did not spoil the tour in any way. Afterwards the party adjourned to the Stormont Hotel for a meal and the remainder of the day was spent shopping in downtown Belfast.

Afterwards the Assembly member paid tribute to the Society for all the work they undertake in the community.

He said: “The Saint Vincent de Paul Society is cross-community in every way and I was glad to meet many people from both communities on the trip.

“These people working in a voluntary capacity have transformed the lives of many people in need, restored their self-esteem and gave back to them the capacity to move on and rebuild their lives.

“The Society is deserving of any support people can give it because every penny is accounted for and spent in the interests of the whole community.
