Damage caused as storms hit Lisburn area

Storm Gertrude and Storm Henry made their presence felt across the province, as gales force winds and torrential rain wreaking havoc in the city.

Weather warnings were issued by the Met Office throughout the week, with motorists being advised not to travel unless it was absolutely necessary.

A number of roads were closed last Friday (January 29) as Storm Gertrude took hold.

The Beanstown Road, Lisburn and the Balilybog Road in Dunmurry were both closed last Friday due to trees blocking the width of the road.

A fallen tree also blocked a lane on the Belsize Road in Lisburn last Friday.

As Storm Henry moved in at the start of this week, the Comber Road in Lisburn, close to the Old Ballynahinch Road, was also closed on Tuesday (February 2), due to a fallen tree,

The adverse weather conditions also caused disruption to power in some areas, including Crumlin.

A broken electricity pole left around 400 homes without power on Monday night (February 1).

NIE Networks said that the majority of homes had electricity supplies restored within three hours.

NIE Networks emergency centres were in operation due to the gale-force winds predicted for Storm Henry.
