Damask Community Outreach marks first anniversary with new service

DAMASK Community Outreach is launching an advice centre.

On Wednesday September 19 the new programme will be officially opened by Lisburn Mayor Alderman William Leathem. Its purpose is to offer confidential one-to-one advice and support on a broad range of issues and trained volunteers are available who can give advice on issues such as simple budgeting, financial capability, benefits advice and employability support. Where expertise is not readily available a sign posting service will put enquirers in contact with the appropriate agencies with which there is a referral system in place including Debt Action NI, DSD Benefits Outreach Team, Storehouse, Cruse, Safe & Well Befriending and Horizons.

Initially the Advice Centre will be open one morning each week, (Wednesday) from 10.00am - 12noon in Seymour Street Methodist Church Hall from September 26. Plans are in hand to add an evening session later in October

Speaking about the Advice Service concept Damask acting Chairman Harold Baird said this was a response to needs expressed in the community and praised those volunteers who had already trained to offer this service. Harold said Damask is listening to the Community and in trying to offer meaningful services he has been impressed by the co-operation of local agencies in the provision of many of its services
