Damask launches Advice Service

AFTER months of planning the Damask Advice Service has been formally launched and regular Advice sessions will take place each Wednesday from 10.00am – 12.00noon in Seymour Street Methodist Church premises.

Guests were welcomed to the opening by Rev Ken Todd who said the latest development on the Damask journey was an enormous challenge as it sought to serve the community. Mr Todd acknowledged the commitment of the Damask Committee and welcomed representatives from partner organisations who together with Damask had helped create a programme of activities and services which had already been appreciated by many of the participants.

In welcoming the Mayor Alderman William Leathem Mr Todd said the Council had provided generous support to Damask at different levels and paid tribute to the local Councillors for their support and interest.

Congratulations were expressed to Damask for the vision and enthusiasm it had shown in serving the local area by the Mayor who went on to say how impressed he was by the dedicated service of so many groups who together made a significant impact on community life in the city.

The Mayor spoke of the need for a multi-agency approach to community work and said the Council would pay its part in this. On the day guests were able to see other aspects of Damask’s work which included a Benefits Advice Session, Senior Citizens’ lunch and plans being made for a Tea Dance later in the day
