Damhead Open Night has the personal touch

Damhead Primary is holding an Open Night on 1st December from 6.30pm, and all perspective P1 children and their parents are cordially invited to attend.

Mrs Laverty, the school principal, feels that Damhead is able to give the personal touch: “Damhead is a very special place full of learning and friendship where everyone is happy, feels safe and is valued. The staff are fully committed to ensuring Damhead is a centre for excellence, serving our children, families and local community the best we can, making sure they achieve and succeed. We have many new developments- from new Imex teaching panels to the purchase of new Ipads and also the formation of the new Damhead Parents and Friends Association. This is newly formed and they have already had great success at their first event. They recently held a Quiz Night in Coleraine Rugby Club and raised £666 with over 200 people at the event. Our parents are a fantastic support to us in Damhead.”

The children, staff and parents are all enthused about the new initiatives taking place including a new outdoor learning area. This has been the major project undertaken this year and has included an SOS Build our Play Day in September whereby a number of parents spent the day helping to build the outdoor area.

The After school Programme continues to grow and develop with at least three after school clubs on offer every day and the Helping Out Parents Club going from strength to strength. Activities include hockey, football, drama, choir, Miniversity, cookery, tennis, orchestra and gymnastics. Popularity also continues in the mornings with the Breakfast Club which opens from 8am until 8.30am and very often the children and parents are enticed in by the smell of Mrs McCarter’s freshly made pancakes!
