Dance and drama at Market Place

THE Market Place Theatre in Armagh is kicking off the new year with the drama 'Austen's Women', and energetic Salsa Dance workshops for adults.

A selection of most rewarding and exciting moments in the works of Jane Austen, ‘Austen’s Women’ brings to the stage the many beautifully observed women and heroines throughout her canon. From scenes of high comedy to moments of pathos and loneliness, Austen's creations are painted with unnerving accuracy.

In a bold revisiting using nothing but the words of Austen herself, the souls of Emma Woodhouse, Lizzy Bennet, Mrs Norris, Anne Elliot, The Dashwood Sisters, Miss Bates and many more are brilliantly illuminated.

Taken out of context [and in the absence of the men!] these women speak volumes for their sex and their standing, constrained by the stringent societal code of their time.

You have only one chance to catch ‘Austen’s Women’ at The Market Place Theatre in Armagh on Tuesday, January 19, at 8pm. Tickets are priced 12 or 10 (concession).

Meanwhile, all those who are competent with the basic steps, and have completed a beginners Salsa course, are invited to take part in the ten week Salsa course for improvers, covering leading and following, cross-body technique, spotting, posture, turning and spinning.

This is an ideal course for those who want to improve their standard of dancing very quickly. Taking place each Thursday from January 21 to March 25, from 8.30pm to 9.30pm, participation is priced at 30 or 20 (concession).

Tickets for all events can be purchased by contacting the Box Office on 3752 1821, or online at www.marketplacearmagh.com
