Dancing group’s charity fundraiser

The Royal Tara Dance Academy, which has classes in Larne, Carnlough, Carrickfergus and Jordanstown, aims to raise vital funds for the Haematology Unit Ward 10 North at Belfast City Hospital, which treats patients suffering from leukaemia. Over the past year, the families of a number of pupils and tutors have been affected by the disease.

Royal Tara dance instructor Marti Shields, from Islandmagee said: “My father was diagnosed with leukaemia last year and was treated at that ward, as were people from three other families who are connected to our organisation.

“This is a chance for us to help support the unit for all the great work that is done there. We plan to carry out a fundraiser once a year, and give the money to different causes each time.

“We have received so much support from local people and businesses, who have donated various prizes to give away on the night. These include vouchers for hair salons, chemists and even a tattoo parlour. I want to say big thank you to everyone who contributed.”

The charity event will be held in the Blue Circle Boat Club, Magheramorne, on Friday, June 10. The entertainment for the evening will be local tribute band, Shangalang Exposure. There will also be raffles and an Irish dancing display.

Tickets are priced at £10 and are now available from the Blue Circle Club, or any Royal Tara dance class.
