Daneshill Road rubbish problem remains

RESIDENTS of Daneshill Road in Coleraine have asked the local MP to help them tackle the problem of a derelict house in the area.

A few weeks ago, a resident of the Ballysally Road contacted the Times to complain about the state a house which had been vacated some months ago but which was still surrounded by black bags of rotting rubbish.

Locals were concerned about the health hazards of the rubbish since a number of eye witnesses had reported seeing rats in the area.

Coleraine Borough Council’s Environmental Health department checked out the complaints but, as the house is privately owned, they were not permitted to enter the grounds to clear away the rubbish.

Worried residents have now contacted East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell seeking help with the problem.

Mr Campbell’s office confirmed to the Times that the MP was looking into the matter.
