Daredevil's exploits to aid cancer groups

CANCER survivor Norman Surplus is hoping that his daring expedition will raise much-needed money for cancer charities throughout the world.

The thrill-seeker believes his world record attempt will help raise awareness and funding for bowel cancer, and he intends to set up a website that will allow people from various countries to donate to the cause.

He said: “There can be life worth living beyond the very real challenges of cancer treatment, and I want this trip to promote hope and encouragement for current cancer sufferers everywhere.

“Cancer is a global problem, and so this should be a global fundraising effort. Setting up a website is the easiest way for people in any part of the world to donate, and while there will certainly be some money going to local cancer charities, I want the funds to be spread out as much as possible.”

The Larne Times has been contacted by a number of people who are eager to donate to Norman’s cause. However, he has asked that people hold on to their money until the website is up and running.

He added: “It is fantastic that people are offering to donate funds before I have even set off on my journey. But is a four-month expedition and there will be plenty of opportunity for people to donate.”
