David’s hobby turns into novel inspiration

CREATIVE writing classes at Stranmillis University College have inspired a Larne man to pen his first novel.

David Moore has officially launched ‘The Abbot’ - a fiction thriller set in Northern Ireland in the post peace process era.

“I had always written poems and bits and pieces and when I found more time on my hands I started attending a Lifelong Learning course at Stranmillis.

“The class tutor Michael McCurley helped to draw out my writing style and got me started on short stories and then encouraged me to start the novel,” he said.

‘The Abbot’ is action-packed journey through the Province with shootings, double cross and intrique as counter terrorist organisations meet enemies, old and new, in an attempt to stop a terrorist outrage.

It is centred in Ballyclare and Rathcoole, and even involves a shoot-out in Magheramorne.

Alongside ‘The Abbot’, David is also launching a compilation of short fictitious stories - ‘In the Lion’s Mouth and Other Stories’ - showing the human condition and the futility of the Troubles.

David’s books are on sale locally at both Apsley’s and The Book Nook.
