Davy delighted with £30,000 total

Davy began the sit out on December 1 with just £6,000 in his charity kitty.

Speaking to The Times, Davy thanked everyone who had donated, and his group of volunteers who helped during the 24 day collection in Coleraine Town Centre.

“I am really pleased with the total, and I am happy that I was able to take part this year.

“I am at my happiest when I am sitting out there in front of my wee hut,” joked Davy. “I went against medical advice and my family to take part this year, but I really loved being back out there. Last year was really hard for me,” admitted the big hearted grandfather.

“I have so many people to thank, Rev Robert McMullan, all of the volunteers, Denis McNeil, Darren Pollock and the PSNI for keeping us safe, Danske Bank, the local press, the boys from Moore’s for helping with the hut each morning, Radio Ulster, Paul McKenna and those who came with food and coffee for the volunteers.

“From the bottom of my heart I really just want to say thank you to all of you that put money in my churn.”

Davy had a special thank you for his wife Teresa and his extended family for their support.

In January Davy will hold a special event to hand over cheques to his charities of 2014, Children’s Heartbeat Trust, Marie Curie, RNIB, Causeway Wheelers, NCDS, Phoenix ADHD, The Robinson Hospital and Help Oliver Walk.
