Davys Street Residents Association contacted Transport NI after a number of elderly householders reported difficulty in using unsalted pathways during the recent cold snap.

With the new grit and salt bin now in place at the junction of Windmill Avenue and Model Way, the group is looking for volunteers to help spread grit at any signs of frost or snow.

The issue was raised as a high priority matter during a recent meeting of the Association in the Carrickfergus YMCA building, according to secretary Al Creighton. “Getting up and down paths in frost and snow was actually quite a big problem for years here considering there are primary schools, retirement homes and elderly living in the area,” he added.

“Thanks to everyone involved at Transport NI.”
