Dawnchorus event

INTERNATIONAL Dawn Chorus Day on Sunday, April 17, will be celebrated in Londonderry’s Creggan Country Park with a guided walk and talk on the different species of birds that live there.

RSPB will be on hand, to help people recognise the different bird calls. Participants are then invited for breakfast, to take in the breath taking scenery of the park and city!

Christine Doherty, Derry City Council’s Biodiversity Officer, explained: “Creggan Country Park provides a variety of habitats for birds with reservoirs, woodland, hedgerows and meadows.

“It provides a home for several red and amber status bird species. There are over 40 different types of bird species within the site.

“This event will provide people with an opportunity to explore the park and learn how to identify the different bird songs.”

Karen Healy, Environmental Officer at Creggan Country Park added: “This event will raise awareness of the fantastic local wildlife in the city and will show how even urban areas are a haven for wildlife.”

This event will celebrate biodiversity “It’s in our Nature” and is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Derry City Council.
