Day at the zoo for children

DEFYING the age old adage that you should never work with children and animals, 1,200 pre-school children, including those from Ozanam Daycare, Lurgan, took part in the annual Zoo Day organised by Early Years - the organisation for young children.

Over 2,000 children, parents and staff from toddler groups across Northern Ireland had a day out to remember at Belfast Zoological Gardens.

For many of the children it was their first ever visit to the zoo, and a chance to discover and learn more about their favourite animals and make lots of new friends.

Grainne Hall, leader of Ozanam Daycare said: “The children have a great day out, they get so engaged by the animals and it is a great opportunity for fun and to learn in a practical way. It is also a great chance to meet up and come together with other members of Early Years.”

In addition to getting up close with the animals, the children received a surprise visit from representatives of the Fire and Rescue Service.
