De ye like haggis? Och aye!

THE haggis was paraded with pride at a Scottish night on Friday hosted by the congregations of Carlisle Road Methodist Church and First Derry and Claremont Presbyterian Churches.

The well-attended event was held in the White Horse Hotel, and in addition to fine dining on haggis, a feat of Scottish-themed entertainment was also laid on.

Entertainers for the evening included Tullintrain Pipe Band who played a varied range of pieces including 'The Green Hills', 'Scotland the Brave' and 'The Rowan Tree'.

The Sollus Dancers, who are based in Bready, performed a number of dances and it was obvious to all present why they have been so successful in many recent competitions.

The inimitable Billy Doherty then recited some Ulster Scots poetry and prose.

The singers Quare Nerve then sang three songs 'Mindulay Boat Song', 'Ye Banks and Braes' and finished with 'Dream Angus'.

This was followed by the Tullintrain Concert band playing a selection of modern hymns other well-known tunes.

The flambed haggis was then piped in and addressed by Billy Doherty in the time-honoured fashion.

After supper Linda and Ken McLean led the floor in a variety of Scottish set dances. This brought a very successful evening to a conclusion.
