Deadline appraoches for Jubilee grant applications

As reported in the Times, Larne Council has invited local groups to apply for a share in a £5,000 grants pot, allowing them to organise events such as street parties to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The national celebrations will centre around an extended weekend from Saturday, June 2 to Tuesday, June 5.

The grants will range from £50 to £500, and the scheme is open to all groups and organisations in the borough. The grants will be assessed by a panel of five local councillors and a number of council officers, which will take place on Monday, March 12 at 10am in Larne Museum.

At the latest meeting of the development committee, members selected the five councillors who would sit on the panel - Cllr Drew Niblock, Cllr Roy Craig, Alderman Roy Beggs, Cllr Michael Lynch and Cllr Martin Wilson.

Members were told that the applications should meet the following criteria: have a strong community participation; promote social inclusion and improve community relations; generate positive publicity for the borough both locally and nationally.

The closing date for applications is Friday, March 9.
