APPLICATIONS close on Friday for membership of the steering groups for two new investment zones in Londonderry and the Western Trust area that will benefit from an £80m fund to tackle deprivation and dereliction, it has been revealed.

The closing date is in place to ensure the steering groups - which will also include politicians and will be subject to the D’Hondt method - are established over the summer.

Earlier this month the Sentinel reported how Londonderry was to be established as one of the nine investment zones that will benefit from the £80m fund.

The Western Trust health area which comprises much of counties Londonderry, Tyrone and Fermanagh has also been designated as a separate zone.

On June 11 a public information event was held at the Eco Playtrail in Londonderry to outline the nomination process ends on Friday.

In a statement First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness advised: “We are also working on the political and statutory membership of the Steering Groups and have carried out a detailed analysis of elected representation in each zone using the D’Hondt method.

“We would hope to have Party decisions on their nominations for the groups over the coming weeks. We will also be inviting the relevant statutory organisations to identify key representatives to be involved in the steering groups.
