Deadline near for power firm’s Community Fund awards

AES Ballylumford is set to award a total of £7,500 to local community groups through its annual Community Fund initiative.

Voluntary groups and other charitable organisations in the borough are invited to apply for one of three awards worth £2,500 each.

Entries must be received by Monday, November 14, and while the company will consider projects based on all aspects of community life, preference will be given to those that support or work with children and young people.

AES Ballylumford plant manager Roger Casement said: “The Community Fund awards were set up some years ago to support projects in the local area. They provide an ideal opportunity for groups in the Larne Borough to apply for much needed funding for projects which benefit the community. I would urge community and voluntary groups in the area to submit their applications before the deadline.

“While all applications are welcome, AES Ballylumford is particularly keen to hear from groups and projects which will help improve the quality of life for children and young people in their own area.”

James Stronge, AES Ballylumford’s IT manager, added: “The Community Fund helps local community groups and organisations embark on projects that will really make a difference to peoples everyday lives in the local area.

“AES Ballylumford is keen to put something back into the local community and the Community Fund allows us to channel funds directly to groups that have tangible proposals which contribute something positive to their area. Throughout the year, AES Ballylumford also operates a Small Grants programme, which supports a number of local events and organisations suggested by our employees.”
