Death of Anna Mary McClure in 101st year

FOUR months after celebrating her 100th birthday, Miss. Anna Mary McClure, who was born in the Kilraughts area, has passed away.

Miss. McClure, a highly respected member of the community who spent much of her life in England, died peacefully at Kirkhill Manor, Boyland Road, Ballymoney, on Tuesday of last week.

She was laid to rest in the graveyard at First Kilraughts Presbyterian Church following a funeral service in the Church.

Miss. McClure celebrated her centenary with a party at Kirkhill Manor on Saturday, January 9, attended by the minister of First Kilraughts, Rev. Noel McLean and the then Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Dr. Stafford Carson. Her brother, John, was also in attendance along with family members and friends.

Miss McClure was born on January 10, 1910 and educated at Ballynagashel Primary School. She worshipped at First Kilraughts and took up a nursing career in 1938 receiving her training at Bethlem Royal Hospital in Kent. She rose to the position of Deputy Matron until her retirement in 1975.

A lady of deep faith, Miss McClure said this had been the source of her strength.

She was a church elder and combined that with charity work and once met Queen Mary in connection with her association with St. John Ambulance.

Ill health promoted Miss McClure to return to the Ballymoney area in October 2001. She came to the Court Nursing Home and then to Kirkhill Manor.

She enjoyed driving until she was 91 years old in her cherished Morris Minor which she bought from new.

Those at Kirkhill Manor and her family and friends have been greatly saddened by the death of Miss McClure who will be missed by all.
