Death of Bro Ronnie White

There has been widespread regret following news of the death of Bro Ronnie White, who had been bravely battling illness for some time.

The funeral service took place on Sunday last, to Carlisle Road Presbyterian Church, where a large number of Brethren gathered to pay their last respects to Bro White.

Ronnie was a member of Victoria Junior Lodge, LOL 175, before stepping up to the senior Lodge, Victoria LOL 108,7 where he was to stay for many years. It was while in LOL 1087 that he began to serve in various offices, and was Master and Secretary of No 1 District.

Bro White was a dedicated and highly respected member of the City of Londonderry Grand Lodge, where he held the office of Chief Marshall for many years, spanning the particularly difficult decades of the 1970s and 1980s, when ‘the Troubles’ were particularly bad. However, Brethren recalled how Bro White stepped up to the plate and steered the City Grand Lodge though the marching season, and could be relied upon to guide the Lodge through City on outward parades in the morning and back again at night safely.

At the poignant funeral service Brethren were reminded of Bro White’s commitment and involvement in the Institution and the fact that his heart always lay with the City of Londonderry, but he move on again when his former Lodge LOL 1087 moved to Newbuildings, and so it was that Bro White transferred to Killaloo LOL 621, and, totally in keeping with his nature, he gave his all to LOL 621.

Mourners were reminded that Bro White gave over 40 years to the Loyal Orders, and in his time he was also a member of Fawney Fort RBP 143, where he held the office of Treasure for a number of years.

“He will be sadly missed by all, and to his wife, Heather, and two daughters and wider family circle, all our thoughts and prayers are with them at this sad time,” said City Grand Orange Lodge PRO, Bro Victor Wray.
