Current Causeway Coast and Glens councillor, UUP man Aaron Callan represents Limavady. He said: “Sorry and saddened to hear of the passing of Leslie Cubitt a former Limavady Councillor. I have fond memories of the 2011 Local Government election with Leslie, in particular the Radio Foyle debate. Leslie was a great character and was driven to always get the best deal for Limavady ratepayers. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time.”

Another serving Causeway Coast and Glens Glens councillor, DUP man James McCorkell, said: “Really sad to hear of Leslie’s passing. While I never served as a Councillor with him, I did know him from his time with the DUP. He was certainly a character and most definitely a man of principle, extremely kind and someone who put others first.

“Today is yet another sad day and one in which Limavady has lost one of its great characters. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”

His party colleague, Alan Robinson, said: “Saddened to learn this morning that our former Limavady Council colleague and DUP Councillor, Leslie Cubitt has passed away. Towards my family, he had a heart of gold which was proven many times... Yet another of our town’s characters gone.”

TUV Councillor Boyd Douglas said: “He did a lot of good work for individuals in the borough, and he was always very enthusiastic about the work he carried out on behalf of ratepayers. He wasn’t afraid to express his views. I’d like to express my sympathies to his wife Maureen and the family circle at this very sad time.”
